Commandos hold lead to win in a tight game
Friday, March 30, 2012

The first game on Friday did not have the fireworks (runs) that the previous two wins had, but came out with the same effect, a win.  The game was a defensive struggle on both sides.  Hendersonville was able to get a run in the third inning.  The inning started with a Cierra Graham single down the third base line.  Cierra would get to second on a wild pitch, then to third on a groundout by Ashleigh Stratton.  Carly Corah would then single to center to bring Cierra home.  The fifth inning would see the last run for Hendersonville.  Melody Watson would single to left field, Cierra Graham would lay down a bunt to move Kalli Brothers to second (courtesy runner for Melody).  Emily Mays would then double to left field for the RBI.  Hendersonville had a few more opportunities in the game, unfortunately, they would not cross homeplate.  South Elgin (IL) would score their only run of the game in sixth inning with a leadoff double, groundout to move runner to third, and groundout to first which brought the runner home.  The game would have some fireworks in the end as the second batter in the seventh inning would get walked, followed by an infield error.  After a run down, there would be runner on third with two outs.  The last batter for the Storm (South Elgin) would have a blooper to right that Ashleigh Stratton would run down for the win.  The winning pitcher on the day was Julia Meade who pitched 6 and 1/3 innings.  Brooke Biggerstaff came in to record the final two outs to receive the save.  Julia struck out four batters on the day, givine up one earned run, and five hits through the game.
