Saturday, May 14, 2016

The Lady Commandos picked up the 9-AAA tournament championship with a 6-3 win over Wilson Central. HHS took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning by scoring three runs off four hits and one walk. Matti Byrd would triple to bring in two runs (Lexi and Ace). Kendyll Rockom would bring in the final run of the inning on a single. Wilson Central would tie the game up on three hits. Two of the runs came off a K. Eakes double. HHS would retake the lead in the bottom half of the 3rd inning. Matti Byrd would double to bring Annsley Kalamon home (who also doubled). Amaya (courtesy running for Matti) would score on a ground out by Alex Beavers. Ace Hanson would score the final run of the game off an error in the sixth inning.

Carley Carlisle pitched all seven innings giving up three hits, three runs (only two earned), walked one, and struck out eight.

With the win, HHS won the regular season and tournament for 9-AAA. First time HHS has won the tournament since 2000. The win allows HHS to host a team from 10-AAA. The team ended up being Henry County, who enters the contest with a 42-3 record.
